Zach is our Student Spotlight for December. He’s been practicing with Maitri since May 2017. When he’s not on his mat he’s working within the field of his passion as a photographer. He recently did two photo shoots for the Maitri teachers and we all had a great time!
Maitri Yoga: Tell us a little about yourself.
Zachary: I am a Colorado native with a passion for photography and cinema that I developed in my teens. I hadn’t done much professionally with my photography until 2015 when I started my own Photography business named Lazy Eye Photography.
M: How does your yoga practice benefit your career/home life and what keeps you committed to your practice?
I started my practice in May of 2017 and attend class three to four times a week as well as practice at home. I came to Maitri Yoga to help with headaches and backaches caused by my scoliosis. I have double curvature scoliosis so any backbend helps me unkink my back. Yoga has also helped me deal with my anxiety. So for me Yoga has brought energy and comfort.
M: What is your favorite yoga pose and why?
My favorite pose keeps changing but my current favorite is Crow pose. I have been trying to include more inversions in my practice and crow pose feels really good on my upper back. Not to mention it is challenging which I enjoy and it’s a good core workout.
M: What are some highlights happening in your life right now?
Currently I’m working on a photography project for Maitri Yoga to update their photos and website, but during the day I supervise the photography department of a local car dealership. You can view a sample of my photography at lazyeyephotography.com.
